Become This Way is an original narrative project developed in-house by Studio MACACO. It tells the story of Cori-D1, a robot vacuum that longs to turn into a fish, and of its conflict with the girl who wants to enter it in an engineering competition. Writing, character design, concept art and Unity prototyping were used to build a story about identity, ambition and acceptance.
Cori-D1 is a household robot fascinated by the ocean. To get closer to the marine world, it starts modifying its own body.
Its wish collides with the plans of the girl who built it, determined to enter it in an engineering competition.
Experiments, accidents and misunderstandings leave both characters facing the same question: follow a perfect model, or recognise what makes the other one happy?
The robot's physical transformation makes the emotional arc of the story visible.
The project covers writing, concept art, character development, visual moods and tests in Unity.
Every stage translates the theme of acceptance into images, behaviours and interactions.
