Bullying VR is an educational virtual reality experience developed for the Swiss Red Cross — Sottoceneri Section and used in middle schools with the support of trainers. Students live through the same bullying episode as the bully, the victim and the bystander, making choices that change the story. The project uses immersion and guided discussion to raise awareness of bullying and cyberbullying.
The experience follows an episode of school bullying from the point of view of the bully, the victim and the bystander.
Switching roles reveals motivations, emotions and responsibilities that a single perspective would leave invisible.
As the story unfolds, players decide how to react.
They can go along with the violent behaviour, interrupt it or stay passive, experiencing the consequences of their own position first hand.
The animations come from motion capture sessions and from a system dedicated to facial expressions.
The classroom was rebuilt in 3D using schools in Canton Ticino as reference.
