The Black Cat is an internal experimental video game inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's story The Black Cat. Players use a variant of the memory game to recover fragments of the story and work out why the protagonist woke up covered in blood. Mistakes, a time limit and rising difficulty turn a familiar mechanic into a noir narrative experience built on memory and guilt.
The protagonist wakes up covered in blood with no idea what happened.
Players have to reconstruct the events leading up to that moment, fragment by fragment.
The memory pairs unlock questions and parts of the story.
Wrong answers raise the difficulty, cut the time available and let an unsettling presence surface.
The noir art direction uses hard contrasts between light and shadow to make the tension of the story visible.
Mechanic, time and image work together up to the final revelation.
